Insite Workshop’s Artist Residency is a two-year, full-time (30hrs/wk) residency program for emerging and mid-career Philadelphia-based artists with socially engaged practices. The program provides studio space and financial support for artists to develop their social practice within our Workshop and produce a new body of work for presentation in our Gallery.
Insite Workshop believes that art can sculpt society, and that as social sculptors, artists can transform not only materials and space, but also forms of being and assemblages of people. We support socially engaged artistic practices because we believe that when artists have financial support and a public platform, they have the capacity to build community and imagine new worlds.
For us, artist support includes the full artmaking cycle, each step of which invites public participation: ideation, experimentation, collaboration, production, and exhibition. As Insite Workshop’s core program, the Artist Residency situates artists as community leaders who bring people together through shared inquiry into artistic and civic processes and concepts.
